Kingham, New Dwelling
This project is the creation of a new dwelling in Kingham, a village very much in the heart of the Cotswolds. We gained planning approval for this new dwelling within Cotswold District Council.
The client owned an orchard/paddock as part of a residential dwelling in the heart of the village, our brief was to obtain planning permission for a new dwelling. We spent time looking at other properties in and around the village, picking up design cues before starting the design process. The client gave us a relatively free design brief so we were able to create a design that we felt to be suitable for the area.
The result of this planning application for the new dwelling, was a planning approval being granted for the first design submission with relatively minimal change.
Our first submission was for a two storey property with a symmetrical Georgian front elevation, with the property being set back away from the road frontage. After gaining the initial approval, we gained a follow-on approval for the installation of dormers on the front elevation to create attic accommodation.
We used high quality local natural stone and very much traditional design details to create the new house, that we felt was very much in keeping with the surrounding area.
