Greatworth, Barn Conversion
This project is a barn conversion near the village of Greatworth.
We successfully gained planning permission to convert a brick traditional barn to form a new dwelling within West Northamptonshire Council.
This district/area has undergone change over recent years, formally being called South Northants District Council.
The client’s brief was to gain consent to convert this lovely example of a red brick barn to form a holiday let. We advised the client that consent for the full residential dwelling would be possible and that this would have better longer term value, so we set about designing the proposal to achieve the client’s needs.
We carefully created a design to fit with West Northamptonshire Council’s Barn Conversion Design Guidance, this in essence looks to retain character and detail of the original building, whilst creating a new dwelling.
The existing threshing barn openings where the main source of daylight, we retained these openings as the main core the barn conversion and introduced “slot windows” into the walls on both sides of the opening to produce minimal new window openings, but allow daylight into the remaining spaces.
